Q - In taking Raman spectra is it most common to do so and display them with the option Dark subtracted chosen?
A - Yes. For the best results it is recommended to use Dark Subtract. Make sure that your saved Dark Scan matches the integration time of your acquisition scan.
Q - What are the typical conditions (laser power and integration time) for acquiring Raman spectra of solutions using the cuvette holder?
A - For a cuvette with Acetone, you can use full power with a 3-5 second integration time.
*The use of our BCR100A will double your signal compared to our previous BCR100 model.
Q - When positioning the Raman probe in the cuvette holder how close should the probe be to the cuvette surface?
A - Insert the probe all the way in, there is a stopper inside the BCR100A for ideal positioning.
532nm Laser/System:
Q - If the interlock is pulled out and the laser is turned off, how long after the laser turns back on do I need to wait for the laser to stabilize?
A - Approximately 30 seconds after the laser starts emitting energy.
785nm Laser/System:
Q - If the interlock is pulled out, and the laser is turned off, how long after the laser turns back on do I need to wait for the laser to stabilize?
A - Approximately 2-5 seconds after the laser starts emitting energy.
532nm Laser/System - I2C control:
Q - If the Laser is turned off via I2C control, how long after the laser turns back on do I need to wait for the laser to stabilize?
A - Approximately 30 seconds
785 nm Laser/System - I2C control:
Q - If the laser is turned off via I2C control, how long after the laser turns back on do I need to wait for the laser to stabilize?
A - Approximately 2-5 seconds
Q - Can my Raman Probe be used to take a dark scan by simply closing the shutter on the probe?
A - Yes, but you need to turn off ambient light when measuring Raman signals.
*Some older generation probes may not block the entire laser signal. A simple test is to raising the exposure time, leaving the laser on, switching the shutter on the probe to off and then take a scan to see if you see any laser signal.
TE Cooled
Q - How do I know if a model is TE Cooled?
A - If the spectrometer model name starts with BTC it is a TE Cooled unit.
Non-cooled
Q - How do I know if a model is non-cooled?
A - If the spectrometer model name starts with BRC it is a non-cooled unit.
Spectrum Stabilized Lasers
Q - What are the typical beam characteristics for your BRM-785-0. 100-FS CleanLaze®?
A - Mode TEM00 M2 < 2.0
Q - How about Stability?
A - Power Stability < ± 3% in 8 hours. Beam Position Stability < 30 micro-radians/°C
Solid State Lasers

BWSpec™
Q - Where can I Download a copy of the BWSpec™ software?
A - BWSpec™ can be downloaded from our website for those who have a valid login. The link is located here.
Q - How can I apply for a login to download BWSpec from your website?
A - You can apply for a login here.
Q - I lost my BWSpec CD, how do I get a new one?
A - If your unit is less than 1 year old, from date of purchase, you may login to our downloads website to download a copy of the software.
Q - How often does one need to acquire a dark scan during a period of usage?
A - If you change the integration time a new dark scan must be taken if using the Dark Subtract feature.
If your measuring condition change, such as keeping the shutter open while taking a dark measurement to eliminate the ambient light affect, then you must take a dark measurement.
Q - What is the intent of a reference scan?
A - 1. To normalize the instrument response curve.2. To remove etaloning effect in back-thinned CCD based instruments.
Q - What does %TR mean?
A - T stands for Transmittance; R stands for Reflectance
